Who's Getting a Star?

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced the names of the celebrities who will be awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013. At a press conference on Friday, actress and recent Walk of Fame star recipient Marg Helgenberger revealed that Javier Bardem, Viola Davis, James Franco, Helen Mirren and Ron Howard will all receive their stars next year. Also from the world of movies, makeup artist Rick Baker is set to be honored. Others chosen from among hundreds of nominees in the running to have a permanent place on the Walk of Fame are television stars Simon Baker, Bryan Cranston, Ellen DeGeneres, Katey Sagal, Jane Lynch and Matthew Perry. Honorees from the live stage include actress Olympia Dukakis and magicians Penn & Teller. David Green, chairman of the Walk of Fame selection committee, said in a statement, “The Walk of Fame will bring everlasting memories of star power, talent and popularity to the millions who visit Hollywood each year and which will shine even more light on the entertainment capital of the world.”

Mark Wahlberg hits the (online) books

He's got a successful film career as an actor and producer that includes two Oscar nominations, but Mark Wahlberg doesn't have a high school diploma. That, however, is about to change. After reading that 41-year-old Wahlberg regretted dropping out of high school his freshman year, Kerry Tondorf, the headmaster of Boston's Snowden International High School in Copley Square, wrote to Wahlberg, telling him of a program the school offers to allow students to complete their high school educations online. Says Tondorf, "He called me the next day, and he seemed very excited and serious about the opportunity," reports the Boston Globe. Snowden International High School in Copley Square was known as Copley Square High School when Wahlberg dropped out to give showbiz a try. Over 25 years later, he's already enrolled in the online program to complete his high school education and has even signed up for his first class. The program allows students to study and complete classes at their own pace, just as long as they log in at least once a week.

Black Keys sue Pizza Hut & Home Depot

The Black Keys have sued Home Depot, Pizza Hut and Pizza Hut's ad agency, claiming that the companies used the band's songs without permission, Bloomberg.com reports. The band alleges that Home Depot used parts of their hit "Lonely Boy" in a power tools commercial, while Pizza Hut used parts of another hit, "Gold on the Ceiling," in a commercial for its Cheesy Bites Pizza. Both songs appear on the band's 2011 album El Camino, and the songs' co-producer and co-writer Danger Mouse is also suing. “We haven’t seen the complaint but we take intellectual property very seriously,” a spokesman for Home Depot told Bloomberg. Spokespersons for Pizza Hut and its ad agency did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment. According to the suits, which were filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, the band last month requested that the companies stop running the ads with their songs in them.

Orion Music + More

Over the weekend, Metallica launched their new annual music, arts and lifestyle festival called Orion Music + More. While the event featured the band performing their signature albums Metallica, a.k.a. the Black Album, and Ride the Lightning in their entirety, it also included more than 35 bands from a wide variety of musical genres. During a press conference with reporters on Friday, frontman James Hetfield said that one of the main reasons they created the event was to offer metal fans the opportunity to expand their musical horizons. “People come to a festival for the music, to hang with their friends, and soak up, hopefully, a different style of music,” explained the singer. “We’ve got the best of different kinds of music. There’s quite a few bands on the bill that I’m not a big fan of but I respect the fact that they’re good at what they do and opening the door for someone who might enjoy that is part of it as well.” Hetfield added that the festival was also created to help to promote emerging talent in the world of heavy metal music. “There’s a lot of…metal bands that need the exposure,” noted Hetfield. “We think they’re good and they need the exposure and we’re kind of doing our best to get them out in front of people. We’ve been blessed over the 30 years to have built up an amazing family and we’d like to share some of our family with some of these other bands.”

Charlize goes BALD?!

Blonde-haired, Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron is looking a bit different these days, according to E! Online. The Snow White and the Huntsman star has shaved her head for her role as Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, a reboot of the 1979 action film that originally starred Mel Gibson. Theron was photographed in Beverly Hills on Monday wearing a grey felt hat over her chrome dome as she carried her six-month-old son Jackson. The movie, which also stars Tom Hardy, is set to start shooting in Africa next month -- a continent that holds a special place in Theron's heart. Theron was born in Benoni, South Africa, in 1975, and even though she became a U.S. citizen in 2007, she still retains her South African citizenship.

Corgan: Slams and Streams

It seems that Billy Corgan isn’t a fan of Radiohead. The Smashing Pumpkins frontman says that he’s upset that some people consider Radiohead’s contribution to rock music to be more important than that of Deep Purple/Rainbow guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. “I'll piss on f**king Radiohead, because of all this pomposity,” Corgan tells Antiquiet.com. “This value system that says [guitarist] Jonny Greenwood is more valuable than Ritchie Blackmore. Not in the world I grew up in." Corgan added that that the very idea of putting one artist’s contribution to music above another bothers him as well. “Have we all made contributions?” asks Corgan. “Yes. I'm not attacking that. I'm attacking the pomposity that says this is more valuable than that. I'm so f**king sick of it, and nobody seems to tire of it." If you’d like to hear The Pumpkins’ latest contribution to rock music, Oceania, then you’re in luck. The band has just announced that they’ve posted a stream of every song from the new album on iTunes where it'll remain from now until the album's release date on June 19.

Stone Sour's newest

For the last few months, Stone Sour has been in the studio working on their fourth studio album. Frontman Corey Taylor took to his Twitter account on Monday to reveal the name and the release date for their upcoming double album. The singer tweeted, “The new Stone Sour album is a 2-part double concept album called House of Gold and Bones (HoGaB), parts 1 and 2. Part 1 will drop in Oct '12.” The singer added that the second part will be released sometime in 2013, tweeting, “Part 2 will drop next year. 24 songs, 12 on each disc. Each disc will include one half of the story.” Taylor also listed a number of song titles that are expected to be a part of the upcoming album’s track list, including “Absolute Zero,” “RU486,” “A Rumor of Skin” and “Taciturn.” In addition, Taylor tweeted that he will be working on creating a comic book to go along with the album as soon as he can “lock in the company who will help me put it together.” Taylor only has a couple of weeks to finish the new album before donning his Slipknot mask and heading out on this year's Rockstar Mayhem Festival with Slayer and Motörhead. That outing kicks off June 30 at the San Manuel Amphitheater in San Bernardino, CA.

Slash gets a star

Slash is getting ready to celebrate another milestone. The guitarist, who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his work with Guns N’ Roses, will get his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of recording. Slash will receive the 2,473rd star on the Walk of Fame during a ceremony taking place in front of the Hard Rock Cafe on Hollywood Boulevard on July 10 at 11:30 a.m. PT. Legendary film producer Robert Evans and actor Charlie Sheen will speak at the event. “Slash is widely considered one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time,” said producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremonies Ana Martinez in a statement. “We are proud to place his name among the stars on our fabled Hollywood Walk of Fame.” Last month, Slash released his second solo album, Apocalyptic Love, featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.

NOT Zombie Apocalypse??

Florida investigators say the Miami man whose vicious face-eating attack left his victim with his eyes, nose and mouth chewed off may not have been a cannibal after all. An autopsy of Rudy Eugene's body found there was no human flesh in his stomach, just a few undigested pills that will take several weeks to be identified through toxicology tests. Authorities suspect Eugene may have been high on a street drug known as "bath salts" during the recent attack, in which he was naked and had to be shot to death by a police officer as he chewed on the face of Ronald Poppo. The grisly assault on Poppo, a homeless man, lasted for 18 minutes and was captured on nearby surveillance cameras. Poppo, 65, remains in critical condition after police say 75 percent of his face was devoured by Eugene. The bizarre attack was one of the first in a string of unrelated cannibalistic incidents that has been dubbed the "zombie apocalypse."
