High Mileage?!

These days, most people consider themselves lucky if a new car lasts 5 to 10 years. Make it to 100,000 miles in your vehicle, and the car company might make a commercial about you. That makes 93-year-old Rachel Veitch a notable exception. Veitch is retiring her 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente after more than 576,000 miles on the road. Yet for all the miles she has put on her vehicle, it doesn't come close to the world record. The Truth About Cars blog wrote that Irv Gordon's 1966 Volvo P1800 is scheduled to reach 3 million miles this year. Gordon has held the record in the Guinness Book of World Records for most miles on a noncommercial vehicle since 1998. Read more HERE

Hollywood Auto Auction

Green Machine

Rolls Royce is coming out with an electric car called the 102EX. It has zero emissions, goes from 0-60mph in under eight seconds and will get you 125 miles on a single charge. The 102 EX costs $1.6 million and is powered by 96 lithium-ion cells. They have a three-year life-span if used and recharged daily. It takes 20 hours to charge the car.

Milk Chocolate Car

Mercedes Benz is selling a chocolate Smart car for Valentine's Day. Designed by a Japanese accessories company, the car is brown and resembles a chocolate bar. The lifesize cocoa car costs $28,780, while the price of an actual Smart car is $22,439.

Carmakers Cover-up

This year's Paris auto show is sporting a new trend. Gone are the days of teeny-weeny bikini clad models slinking between shiny chrome. The automakers have turned their sights to producing more fuel efficient and green automobiles and feel that reaching the new breed of consumer required a more modest, tailored and educated approach to showcasing their new rides. This year, there are a mix of female and male hosts (not called models) who do not just stand beside the auto they are presenting and wave their hands like Vana White. Instead, they are dressed in designer duds and briefed on the specs of what they are showcasing so they may speak in an educated manner while present as well as while working the booth and chatting up potential customers. Some changes that were reported::

• Renault's hostesses wore knee-length yellow dresses with short sleeves.


• Hyundai featured hostesses in tailored white dresses with a black belt and matching white jacket.


• Peugeot's futuristic black-and-white stand featured male and female models in casual suits with open-necked shirts and short black dresses.


• Nissan's stand featured a model in a loose-fitting pale blue one-shouldered dress.


• Lamborghini had three models in skintight strapless silver dresses, slit to the thigh.

Crappy Car

British engineers have designed a new car that runs on human crap. The VW Beetle convertible, or Bio-Bug, has a top speed of 114 mph. Human waste from 70 homes is enough to drive the car 10,000 miles a year. The vehicle starts out using unleaded gas, but switches to methane once the engine is "up to temperature".

Chosen to Drive

Lexus is coming out with a new $350,000 car called the LFA. Only 500 are being produced. Buyers must get permission to buy the car. Lexus will choose buyers based on the other cars they own, where they live, and how often and where they drive. The LFA will be able to accelerate from zero to 60 in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 202 mph.

DUDE! Where's my car?

Robert Pattinson can't find his car. He says it's somewhere in L.A.. "I don't even remember where I left my car. It's probably been towed away by now. That's my only immovable possession and now I don't know where it is! It's upsetting though because it was important to me. It was the first car I ever bought. Made me feel like a man, buying a car."
