Gold Mine

Apple's Steve Jobs is gifting the Chilean miners with new iPods. Oakley, who sent the trapped Chilean miners scores of sunglasses to protect their eyes from the sun, received the equivalent of $41 million in free advertising time from their donation. Each miner received a $450 pair of glasses. Other companies are gifting the miners and their families with cash, food, signed sports jerseys, clothing, sexy lingerie, wine, toys and children’s Halloween costumes.

NASA provided the Chilean miners with a high calorie liquid diet designed to keep them from vomiting as their rescue capsule rotated through curves in their 28-inch escape hole. The miners downed aspirin and wore compression socks to prevent blood clotting. They went from 90 degrees underground to near freezing temps on the surface. 700,000 tons of rock collapsed on the men on August 5th. Each capsule ride took 15 minutes.

Edison Pena, the 12th Chilean miner freed after 69 days underground, kept morale up by singing Elvis Presley songs with the other miners. Now, he's going to Graceland. The Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau is paying for the trip. Elvis Presley Enterprises sent Elvis music to Chile for Pena.

Yonni Barrios may be the most famous trapped Chiliean miner because at one point, he had his wife and mistress waiting for him. His wife, Marta Salinas, did not attend his rescue yesterday and said, “He asked me to, but it turns out that he also asked the other lady, and I am a decent woman. Things are clear: it’s her or me.” CNN says Yonni was greeted by his mistress. Yonni has been having a 10-year affair with Susana Valenzuela. He was the 21st rescued miner. Film companies are lining up to talk to Yonni. Some say Javier Bardim should play him in a movie because of their close resemblance. Yonni wants his wife and mistress to be friends because he loves them both.
