(Anti)Valentine's Day
Iran has banned the production of Valentine’s Day gifts and anything else associated with romance. The government says the ban is necessary because they need to combat the spread of Western culture. Under Iran’s Islamic law, unmarried couples are not allowed to socialize. Cards, boxes with symbols of hearts and red roses have all been banned. Authorities plan to take legal action against those who ignore the ban.
