1790 - In the United States, George Washington delivered the first State of the Union address.
1961 - Colin Jones of Queensbury, England set a world record for "heading" a soccer ball - 3,412 times. After that, he REALLY had to have his head examined!
1971 - The fight of the century, starring Muhammad Ali and Smokin' Joe Frazier, took place. Ali said in his usual pre-fight modesty, "It's gonna be the champ and the tramp." But Smokin' Joe actually knocked down the champ, and officials gave the fight to him.
1993 - Beavis and Butt-Head premiered on MTV as a series. The characters had been introduced on MTV's Liquid Television program.
