A woman on board a Southwest Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Houston landed behind bars for a mid-flight manicure. Jeanie Daniels is now speaking up about the incident on February 26. She was traveling to meet her boyfriend in Texas, so -- after asking permission from those around her -- she says she decided to paint her nails mid-flight. With two nails to go, a flight attendant told her to stop. Daniels complied, but told KCAL-TV she ducked into the rest room to finish up -- and was met by a second irate flight attendant, who continued to admonish her as she took her seat. Eventually, Daniels cursed, "because [the flight attendant] wouldn’t end the conversation.” Because Daniels cursed, she was taken into custody by armed officers at the gate after she landed in Texas. After more than 10 hours behind bars, a judge agreed to toss out an "abusive profane language" charge against her.
A 71-year-old woman from Brynmawr, in South Wales was fined £75 -- around $90 -- for littering when a single strand of her knit glove landed on the pavement. "I had caught my watch on my glove and a piece of cotton had come off and fallen to the ground," said Valerie George to the Daily Mail. An "environmental enforcement officer" stopped the elderly woman, who understandably didn't notice the errant fiber, and she says the "rude" agent slapped her with the fine. "It was a strand of cotton, not a cigarette butt. I can’t believe they would fine a pensioner for dropping something like that," Mrs. George said. After a review, a local council admitted Monday that an infraction was indeed committed, but the fine will be waived.
